The latest news from The Adelaide Hills Amateur Radio Society 08122020
Good news, the AHARS web site is now working. Paul, VK5PAS the web master, has spent a lot of time updating and giving the site a new look. https://www.ahars.com.au/ VK5PH, Pauls remote receiving site, is suffering a nose problem. The cause is problems with the power distribution in the area and SA Power Networks are working on the cause. It is now more important than ever to listen to the Sunday broadcasts and remember if you cannot listen to these live you can find them on the NERC web site and listen to them at your leisure. http://northeastradioclub.org.au/wia-broadcast/ Here you will find audio files of both the national and the local broadcasts. It is also a good excuse to get on the air and talk to each other via our network of repeaters. AHARS has 185 members and we often have only as few as ten or twelve people log in, and some of these are not AHARS members. Remember, all hams, not only AHARS members, are welcome to join the Monday night net. I have heard rumours of 10Metre openings and this means six metre should be open soon. So far I have managed to talk to two VK5’s on 10 Metre, and VK7NWT in Tasmania. The 10M call frequency is 28.490 MHz. Keep an eye on your emails and an ear on the Sunday broadcasts to find out what AHARS is planning over the next few weeks. The committee has decided we will not have a Christmas Dinner this year. Instead we are planning to have our January Picnic on Sunday the 17th of January at the Marion RSL like we have had for the past two years. It will be free to financial members of AHARS. The price for non members, including partners who are not financial members of AHARS, will be $15.00 including a desert. I will be calling for registrations when we have finalised the arrangement with the RSL. The increase in price is because we cannot supply our own deserts this year due to covid rules. To make up for the “fun” we usually have at the Christmas Party, Shirley is making up three substantial baskets for door prises. More details in next weeks broadcast. 2020 is almost gone and it is time to think about the AHARS committee for 2021. AHARS needs you ! Last week I sent out a document outlining the duties of those on the committee and a nomination form. If you feel moved to join the committee, fill out this form and post it to me at PO Box 501 Modbury or scan and sent via email. My email address is vk5srp@wia.org.au That’s all for this week, 73. G’day folks, lunches at the RSL are still on and are on the second and fourth Friday of each month starting at noon.
This Fridays lunch at the RSL is on as usual except it is important you contact the RSL to book your place for the lunch at the RSL on 8278 6253 or via email at rslbwood@bigpond.com. The limit is ten people per table and they will book us in under multiple names. I am hoping they will continue through January and if this is the case, they will be on the 08/01/2021 and 22/01/2021. In February they will be on the 12th and the 26th. I am still waiting for confirmation on these dates. Of course the forth Friday in December is Christmas day so stay home and have Xmas dinner !
