Hello Club Members and Fellow Amateur Operators,
This is John, VK5RJ with this week’s news from the Adelaide Hills Amateur Radio Society. AHARS had a good representation at Wriggles’ funeral on Wednesday with about 8-10 members present. It was a lovely celebration to Trevor’s life, and his family and friends spoke well of his escapades through the Amateur Radio and TV world. It was a cracker of a day and the funeral was held out under a big tree in the garden at Partridge House in Glenelg. There was also members from the other clubs, North East, AREG, WICEN in attendance. Trevor will be sadly missed by all who knew him. AHARS will once again be holding a Public Buy and Sell event, and this will be held on Saturday 15th of July, at the Marion RSL in Norfolk Road, Marion. Sellers will pay $10.00 and get 2 tickets. Buyers will pay a $5.00 entry fee. If you can spare some time to assist in the running of this event, please get in touch with either myself or Geoff (VK5JB) to be added to the list of helpers. The committee has decided that we need to hold a Special Meeting prior to running the next monthly General Meeting, and this will be held on the night of the 21st of April as there are a few things that need to be dealt with. There are some minor wording changes that need to be corrected in our Constitution and we need to accept and ratify the minutes of the 2022 AGM. More details will follow in future bulletins. The buy and sell was a great success, with over $730.00 raised for the VK5LT Estate. There are still quite a few items that will be up for sale at the Public Buy and Sell. I’m looking forward to Graham Dicker’s presentation at the next monthly meeting on Electrical Safety, which is something we all need to be aware of. Lunch at the Blackwood RSL was well attended by the regular crowd and it was good to see the ladies attending. Don’t forget the excellent information on the AHARS Web and Facebook pages, and we thank Paul (VK5PAS) for his excellent work administering both. As always, if you have anything of interest, or any exciting news, please let me know so we can share things with all our members. I will be away at a reunion in Port Pirie next weekend, so I won’t be able to do the Sunday Broadcast and Email for the 2nd of April. This event was planned and booked last year and can’t be changed. Well, that's all for now from me, so keep looking at the emails, and listening to the Sunday broadcast, and stay away from COVID and other nasty bugs. Cheers & 73 from VK5RJ

Hello Club Members and Fellow Amateur Operators,
This is John, VK5RJ with this week’s news from AHARS, the Adelaide Hills Amateur Radio Society. The big news is that AHARS will once again be holding a Public Buy and Sell event. This will be held on Saturday 15th of July, at the Marion RSL which is in Norfolk Road, Marion. Sellers will pay $10.00 and get 2 tickets. Buyers will pay a $5.00 entry fee. We will have more announcements as details are ironed out. Watch this space! Long serving Committee member Jim (VK5TR) has decided that it is time to hang up his boots and has resigned from the committee. The committee and I’m sure the membership extend a huge “Thank You” to Jim for his years of service. Jim will still be around to offer his advice and technical support, and may be pressed into service to help with Club Projects should we decide to go down that path again. The committee has asked Paul (VK5PH) to step into this vacancy, and he has accepted. Paul will give a (short) presentation at the March General Meeting on some of his ideas as to how AHARS may go forward in the coming years Don't forget that our next general meeting on the 16th March will be a Club Buy and Sell event, so bring along a pocket of cash, and all those unwanted items that are cluttering up you shack that you haven't used in ages. We will not be allowing any Sales or Trading until after the Meeting has been concluded. There are a lot of smaller things from the VK5LT Estate up for sale. Some really nice stuff. Sellers will be asked to arrive and set up in the Hewitt room at 7:00 pm and the room will then be closed until after the conclusion of the business of the Meeting. That’s when the fun will begin! Yesterday’s Tech/Coffee meeting was the last to be regularly scheduled for a 2nd or 4th Saturday. In future, these meetings will be held on the first Saturday of each month. We may have to make an adjustment later in the year due to a prior commitment in the Hewitt Room. Friday lunches at the Blackwood RSL still remain on the Second and Fourth Fridays. I will be attempting to update the information on the AHARS page on the WIA web site, as it is rather out of date, and we are taking steps to have our AHARS Web page (https://www.ahars.com.au) updated with the latest info and committee members. Don’t forget that there is some excellent information on the AHARS Facebook page, and the committee thanks Paul (VK5PAS) for his excellent work administering both the Web page and the Facebook group. As always, if you have anything of interest, or any exciting news, please let me know so we can share things with all our members. I have been asked to send this News Item out in both .doc and .pdf format, so you can choose which to use. Sometimes the .pdf is much faster to load and display. Well, that's all for now from me, so keep looking at the emails, and listening to the Sunday broadcast, and stay away from COVID and other nasty bugs. Cheers & 73s from VK5RJ |
