Hello Club Members, Fellow Amateur Operators, and Everyone,
This is John, VK5RJ with this week’s news from AHARS. Not a lot new and exciting has happened this week, but I know we have at least one newly licensed member come up in the last week. Welcome Richard, VK5AAD, and we look forward to your QSOs on air. The next Saturday Tech Session on the 1st of July at 10:00am will feature a presentation from Paul, VK5PH, on “CW Rennaisance – A Practical Approach” where he will show us some Tips, Tricks, Techniques and Tools for learning and starting to use CW and Morse Code. Those who know Paul understand how passionate he is about CW and using it on air. A Session not to be missed! Don’t forget that if you want to reserve a table at the AHARS Public Buy & Sell on Saturday the 15th of July, you need to drop an email to VK5JB, at geoffb.100@bigpond.com . He will get back to you and confirm your booking. Payment will be made on the day at the venue. I believe that there are still a couple of tables available, so please let everybody know so they don’t miss out! We still need helpers on the day, and are looking for members to put their hand up and give us an hour of their time to help set up, pack up, or even just man the AHARS tables to give others a bit of a break. Please drop Geoff, VK5JB an email at geoffb.100@bigpond.com . We have been asked to post the information for our regular weekly nets, so here it is: Monday night AHARS 2 metre net. 147.00 on VK5RAD at 20:00 It is a general chat about what we have all been doing and anything that is of interest. It is open to all registered Amateur Operators, and we especially welcome new and recently licensed people to join in and overcome the jitters of being on air. You don’t have to be an AHARS Member to join in. Boat Anchor Net. Conducted by VK5LB (Dean) on 3.62 MHz every Tuesday evening at 19:30 One of the longest running Nets on the airwaves anywhere! Come up and say Hello if you have 80 metre capability! ANZA DX Net The ANZA (Australian, New Zealand and Africa) net runs every day on 14.183MHZ at 0515UTC with an early check in at 0500UTC. It is a list net and one has to wait one's turn to give reports, etc. There are check-ins from all over the world (anywhere from 15 to 35 per day) and it would be a great platform for those wanting to work towards their DXCC awards. Paul, VK5PAS and Shirley VK5YL alternate as net controllers on Thursday, which is Ladies Day. It would be fantastic if other YLs could join in especially on these days but all are welcome any day. As always, if you have anything of interest, or any exciting news, please let me know so we can share things with all our members.

Hello Club Members, Fellow Amateur Operators, and Everyone,
This is John, VK5RJ with this week’s news from AHARS. The Tech Session held by John Dawes last Saturday appeared to be a hit, and was appreciated by all who attended. Thanks very much John. Registration for the August sessions will be opening in early July and we are hoping that we will have about the same number of people interested in reserving a spot for that session. The next Saturday Tech Session on the 1st of July will feature a presentation from Paul, VK5PH, on “CW Rennaisance – A Practical Approach” where he will show us some Tips, Tricks, Techniques and Tools for learning and starting to use CW and Morse Code. Those who know Paul understand how passionate he is about CW and using it on air. A Session not to be missed! Don’t forget that if you want to reserve a table at the AHARS Public Buy & Sell on Saturday the 15th of July, you need to drop an email to VK5JB, on geoffb.100@bigpond.com . He will get back to you and confirm your booking. Payment will be made on the day at the venue. Again, please see the attached flyer to this email. I believe that we have about 20 tables already booked, so don’t miss out! Our special presentation of Life Membership Badges will be made to Lloyd Butler, Hans Smit, Christine Taylor, Jim Tregellas and Barry Williams this meeting. Don’t miss the opportunity to come and offer your congratulations and well wishes to these special people who have contributed so much to our club in past years. Our presentation at this meeting will be by VK5ZC (Mike) on general Antenna principles and other interesting stuff, which should be very interesting, as there is always something to learn! A successful committee meeting was held after the Saturday Session, and one of the topics discussed was the possibility of adopting a new way of sending out email and information to members, with the possibility of Special Interest Groups and even a Buy and Sell section. We have asked some of our committee members to look into that and report back to us. Groups.io is one option being considered. Remember that we have our regular Monday Evening AHARS 2 metre Net, on the VK5RAD repeater on 147.00 Mhz. It is a general chat about what we have all been doing and anything that is of interest. It is open to all registered Amateur Operators, and we especially welcome new and recently licensed people to join in and overcome the jitters of being on air. Starts at 20:00 (8 o’clock) and goes to around 21:30 (half past nine) or thereabouts. Come up for a chat and say Hello, especially if we haven’t had the pleasure previously! You don’t have to be an AHARS member to join in! And don’t forget the Bottle Shop Net conducted by VK5LB (Dean) on 3.62MHz every Tuesday evening at 19:30 One of the longest running Nets on the airwaves anywhere! Come up and say Hello if you have 80 metre capability! As always, if you have anything of interest, or any exciting news, please let me know so we can share things with all our members. And that's all for now from me, so keep looking at the emails, and listening to the Sunday broadcast, and stay away from COVID and other nasty bugs. Cheers & 73 from VK5RJ and AHARS for this week. |
